The NSBE UNIBEN (University of Benin) Chapter in Nigeria held its first Engineering Practice Conference on May 14–16, 2009.  One hundred and seventy NSBE collegiate and Alumni members attended, along with eight persons from the community and 60 NSBE Jr. members. Speakers included Professor F.O. Edeko, dean of the Faculty of Engineering at the University of Benin; NSBE-AE member Shawn E. Simmons, Ph.D., lead environmental and regulatory advisor for ExxonMobil in Nigeria; Ndubuisi Ekekwe, Ph.D., student at The Johns  Hopkins University and founder of the African Institute of Technology; and Nosa Bello of the Department of Electrical/Electronic Engineering at the University of Benin.

 

The Conference presented sessions on topics including access to grants and scholarships, career access, robotics and mechatronics, and business opportunities; a free workshop on microelectronic designs using computer-aided design (CAD); a technical work presentation/exhibition; and more.
