Texas A&M University, Distinguished Chapter of the Year

The grassroots movement is alive and well in NSBE’s Texas Zone, “Big Tex.” Just ask the brothers and sisters at Texas A&M University – College Station, recipient of NSBE’s 2007–2008 Distinguished Chapter of the Year honor. Along with their increased membership, greater fundraising, outreach to students at a local high school and higher university profile, it was their unwavering belief in what they can do for NSBE and what NSBE can for them that earned them this recognition.

“Focused” and “engaged” only begin to describe this group, each of whose members seem thoroughly invested in the chapter’s commitment to excellence. Future engineers in this chapter are positioning themselves to become leaders in biomedical, petroleum, ocean and civil engineering. But they have also made it their mission to take NSBE’s presence at Texas A&M to a higher level.

Last year’s chapter president, Brandon Lewis, who graduated in May with a B.Sc. in civil engineering, set the vision for the chapter’s banner year.

“At our summer retreat in preparation for the 2007–08 school year, I stated that the success of the school year would be based on whether or not we were national Chapter of the Year, period,” he says.
