Signature Programs

A Walk for Education (AWFE)

This program is an international effort to encourage and promote math and science education within underrepresented groups. During AWFE, members go into neighborhoods to promote the value of education –especially math & science education- for secondary and post secondary students. AWFE serves to promote the T.O.R.C.H projects in cities across membership locations, including our partnership with Intel at the Intel Clubhouses. Educational goodie bags will provide info about the closest available NSBE T.O.R.C.H center learning opportunities.

National Leadership Institute

NLI is NSBE’s own leadership training experience including pre-college students, chapter/regional/national officers and technical professionals. NLI serves to develop the core leadership competencies of NSBE leaders and members so that they far exceed the performance of their non-member counterparts in key functional leadership areas. The institute is in its Manifesto Stage (phase 1), which includes modifications and expansions such as:

  • National Leadership Conference
  • Pre-College students at Regional Leadership Conferences
  • NEB Development Sessions-see appendix
  • National implementation of The Leadership Challenge- see appendix
  • National implementation of the Leadership Shadowing Initiative-see appendix
  • Online PDU/CEUs- see appendix

Achievers Plus

Achievers Plus or A+ is NSBE’s signature program for improving the Academic and Technical aptitude of its members from PCI to PhD. The Achievers Plus program is implemented directly at the chapter level via

  • Academic Workshops
  • Support Workshops/Activities-see appendix
  • Mentoring Activities
  • Individual Assessment Guides
  • Collective and individual recognition

The program will expand to include online tutoring and will also include research tools that are so critical to graduate student and professional researchers. Achiever plus has expanded to promote memberships in our technical partner organizations to improve technical aptitude. This program offers both individual and group incentives that encourage the members to achieve, and achieve more abundantly.
